Local News In Brief : $3.1 Million Rent Aid Tagged for Burbank

Federal officials said Thursday that Burbank will receive a $3.1-million grant to subsidize rent payments for 110 low-income families under an experimental five-year housing voucher program.
The Burbank Housing Authority will be one of 41 public housing agencies in 28 states sharing in a $52.8-million “demonstration project” being conducted by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, officials said. HUD hopes to replace its Section 8 subsidy program with the voucher system. The Section 8 program finances construction of rental units for low-income families.
