WASHINGTON — President Jose Napoleon Duarte of El Salvador said today that he has received unconfirmed reports that his army captured a Nicaraguan ship that may be loaded with weapons headed for rebels fighting his government.
Neither Duarte, the Salvadoran military nor the State Department could confirm the reports, which Duarte made public on ABC’s “Good Morning America. “We have captured (the ship) last night and they’re moving it to the port and to check out what happened,” said Duarte, who is visiting the United States. “We think that this ship comes from Nicaragua, yes.”
