$20,000 TUCKER PRIZE FOR MILLO

Aprile Millo, a California-trained soprano who made her official Metropolitan Opera house debut in November, 1984, has been awarded the Richard Tucker Prize, the Tucker Foundation announced in New York.
In winning, Millo received $20,000, which foundation official Karen Nelson claimed is “the largest cash prize in classical music.”
Millo, 27, was born in New York, raised in Los Angeles and made her operatic debut in 1980 in Salt Lake City. Since then she has made first appearances in Germany, at La Scala in Milan and with the Welsh National Opera.
