A 19-year-old Canoga Park woman was injured Monday when her hang glider crashed in a brushy area of the Angeles National Forest above Pacoima Dam.
Karen Schenk was in fair condition at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, where she underwent surgery for facial cuts and a broken arm, a hospital spokeswoman said. She was lifted from the wreckage of her hang glider by a Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter, a department dispatcher said.
The cause of the crash was not known.
The area where she crashed is below two popular hang-glider launching points in the mountains, including an abandoned Nike missile site, a veteran hang glider said.
