Everyone at the Spring Games for Exceptional Children was a winner. That means the 300 children from kindergarten through 12th grade in the sponsoring Rowland Unified and Hacienda-La Puente Unified school districts who competed in the recent morning-long track and field events for youngsters with orthopedic, visual and learning handicaps, the uniformed Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team and mounted patrol members who volunteered their time to help out, and the area service club members who contributed money. Blind youngsters were guided by stringers as they ran, wheelchair-bound children competed in dashes and obstacle courses as they sought their personal bests in the events at Nogales High School in La Puente.
