For the first time in seven years, the South Pasadena Library will open on a Friday. The library has been closed on Fridays since 1978, when property tax cutbacks under Proposition 13 forced the city to cut expenses. A $28,000 increase in funding by the city allowed the library to hire more staff members to open an extra day, Librarian Jean Jones said. The hours on Friday will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
