Morocco May Dock Pay of Absentee Lawmakers

RABAT, Morocco — Members of the Moroccan Parliament, which suffers from chronic absenteeism, will have their pay cut if they do not attend regularly.
The 306-member Chamber of Representatives, where debates are often attended by only 30 members, has ruled that warnings will be issued after three days’ unjustified leave, officials said Wednesday.
After repeated absences, a deduction will be made from members’ salaries, and the penalty will be published.
