Malibu : Staff to Brief Coastal Panel on Local Plan

The California Coastal Commission will be briefed by its staff today on a revised proposal for Malibu’s local coastal plan, a blueprint for future development along the 27-mile shoreline and five miles inland to the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains.
Commission and county negotiators are trying to reach agreement on the plan, which would give the local government full authority over construction in Malibu. Currently, the Coastal Commission has the final say. The Malibu discussion is expected to come during the afternoon portion of the commission’s meeting, at the Holiday Inn near Los Angeles International Airport, said commission analyst Steve Scholl.
Representatives from the state Department of Transportation will discuss their plans for the stretch of Pacific Coast Highway linking Malibu to Los Angeles. Public testimony will not be heard until June 13.
