Panel OKs Luxury Houses:Permission to build eight custom single-family homes in Dana Point was granted by a unanimous vote of the Coastal Commission on Thursday. The eight units are part of a larger development consisting of 46 custom homes and 112 condominiums on a 24-acre site off Coast Highway. The eight homes will be built on the portion of the development that falls within the Coastal Commission’s jurisdiction. A spokesman for the developers, Pacific Mutual Life Insurance Co., and the Smyth Companies, a Lake Forest builder, said construction of the single-family homes, which will sell for about $500,000 each, could begin as early as June.
