The State : Bomb Links Suspected

Explosion of a booby trap bomb May 15 in a computer terminal room at the University of California, Berkeley, may be tied to a similar explosion on the same campus three years ago and to other incidents across the country, university police said. Air Force Capt. John Hauser, a graduate student who had hoped to be an astronaut, suffered eye and hand injuries in the most recent explosion, which occurred when he tried to open a small plastic box. Three years ago, an electrical engineering professor was seriously hurt when a similar package detonated in a faculty coffee room. Police said they have no suspects in either case and warned authorities nationwide to watch for suspicious packages sent to college and university personnel.
