The City Council has appointed Lorenzo Sandoval, a retired school administrator, to fill a vacancy created by the recent death of Councilman Armando Mora.
Sandoval, 69, will serve the remaining three years of Mora’s term, until April, 1988. Sandoval had been a member of the Planning Commission for eight years and had served on the Santa Fe Springs Sister City Committee and the Regional Occupational Program board of directors. In 1983, he was named residential Citizen of the Year by the Santa Fe Springs Chamber of Commerce.
“I’ve seen this city grow,” Sandoval said in an interview. “I was very pleased (with the appointment) because I feel that I am replacing a good man. I’m very much concerned about redevelopment, housing programs and the senior citizens’ programs.”
The council on May 23 also selected Councilman Al Sharp to succeed Ron Kernes as mayor. Councilwoman Betty Wilson was chosen to succeed Sharp as mayor pro tem.
