SALT LAKE CITY — The huge angel statue high atop the Mormon Temple is getting a new coat--of gold.
Mormon Church officials say the Angel Moroni statue is looking a bit frayed around the edges so it’s getting a new covering of gold leaf.
The famous symbol of the center of the church has stood atop its 210-foot-high perch since 1893. It weighs three-quarters of a ton and stands 12 feet, 5 1/2 inches tall. Its current gold leaf covering was applied in 1962.
