Israeli Cabinet OKs Early Time Change

JERUSALEM — Israel’s Cabinet on Sunday bowed to pressure from religious Jews and voted to end daylight saving time two weeks ahead of schedule.
Interior Minister Yitzhak Peretz told the government that longer dawn prayers in anticipation of the Jewish Day of Atonement next month would make devout Jews late for work unless clocks were moved back an hour.
The Cabinet announced that Israel would return to standard time (PDT plus nine hours) on Sept. 1, instead of Sept. 14.
