Nixon Meets Nakasone, Urges Open Markets

TOKYO — Former President Richard Nixon met Monday with Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone and urged him to carry through on Japan’s plans to open its markets to foreign goods, the Kyodo News Service reported.
Nixon and Nakasone met for 40 minutes, and the former President urged the Japanese government to push its recently announced “action program” to open Japan’s markets and reduce trade tensions with the United States.
Nixon, who arrived in Tokyo last Wednesday, will leave today for a six-day trip to China, according to his chief aide, John Taylor.
