THE AFRICA BIZ

Lately I’ve been thinking, “I’m so proud of my generation! Finally human beings are coming together and taking care of what needs doing.”
But just like everything else, USA for Africa went Big Business, USA for Africa became a conspicuous consumer (“USA for Africa: New Heights of Affluence,” by Dennis McDougal, Sept. 1).
Moving to a high-rise is not an action taken by an organization that expects to spend its funds by the “end of September.”
Somehow, it seems very, very wrong that $30 million is sitting in a bank while the powers that be are appointing new board members.
These funds were donated under the supposition they wouldn’t have time to collect interest. Maybe they are spending the money wisely, but I’m finding it increasingly difficult to trust them anymore.
