I find myself appalled at what I see happening in the media regarding Richard Ramirez--the suspected so-called Night Stalker. What’s going on here?
Local television has been filled with interviews of residents crying, “Thank God, they caught him.” Apparently most of the world needs reminding that the man was only arraigned on Tuesday. His trial has yet to begin. The man has not yet been convicted!
I am not prescient; I will not comment on the results of Ramirez’ trial. But it occurs to me that since the advent of electronic media, it has been impossible to get the fair trial guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution.
