Anaheim : Report Doubted, Vote on Mini-Marts Delayed

Concerned that a report linking drunk driving to alcohol sales at gasoline station mini-marts may not be objective, City Council members have postponed a decision on a proposed ordinance to ban such establishments.
Mayor Don Roth has repeated his request of July 30 for two written reports--one from city police and a second from the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control--before council members act.
City officials were presented a report from the Orange County Alcoholism Advisory Board, which surveyed 679 people attending three of the county’s drunk drivers’ schools.
Of the drivers surveyed, 51% had bought their beer or wine at a gas station mini-mart, and 43% drank it immediately, according to the survey.
