480 S. Africans in Angola Raid

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Nearly 500 South African-led troops have pushed into Angola to attack several hundred black guerrillas fighting for Namibia’s independence, the military said today in giving details for the first time on the 3-day-old operation.
It said 12 units of about 40 men each were pursuing 400 to 800 guerrillas in a battalion of the South-West Africa People’s Organization. Spokesmen also said warplanes staged an air strike on the guerrillas’ forward command post near the village of Nehone, 60 miles into southern Angola. There was no immediate word on casualties.
