Funds for a rehabilitation study have been approved by the La Verne City Council as part of an effort to save Miller Hall, a 66-year-old dormitory on the University of La Verne campus that had been scheduled for demolition earlier this year.
The city will spend $5,000 of a $15,000 redevelopment allocation for historic preservation to study the building’s structural deficiencies and determine the best method of restoring it.
Last December, the university, citing a lack of funds, obtained permission from the city to tear the building down. But preservationist groups objected and the university later came up with a less expensive restoration plan that it hopes to finance through private donations.
