Debbie Stewart’s goal in overtime gave the Chapman College women’s soccer team a 2-1 win over Cal Poly Pomona Wednesday at Chapman.
Although the Broncos have a poor 1-5-1 record, the Chapman team considered the victory the most significant in its brief two-year history. The Panthers now have won three straight matches.
Pomona opened the scoring with Tricia McCarthy’s goal. Chapman tied it late in the match when halfback Barbara Stritaf scored from 30 yards out, the ball going into the upper corner of the net. Chapman plays at UC San Diego at 4 p.m. Friday
In other soccer action Wednesday, the Cal State Fullerton men’s team (3-2) lost to the University of San Diego, 1-0, at Fullerton. The match was scoreless until the 88-minute mark when the Toreros’ James Kyle scored.
Titan goalkeeper Bobby Ammann had nine saves. Cal State Fullerton travels to Biola for its next match Wednesday.
