EARTHQUAKE IN MEXICO : European Nations May Discuss Ways to Aid Victims

LUXEMBOURG — Finance ministers of leading Western industrial nations could discuss special aid for Mexico at a routine meeting in New York this week, Luxembourg Economics Minister Jacques Poos said Saturday.
Poos, speaking to reporters after an informal meeting of European Community finance ministers here, said member nations might bring up the question of aid for the earthquake-devastated country--which is also one of the world’s largest debtor nations--at Tuesday’s meeting of the group of 10 nations.
Poos, holder of the Commmunity’s rotating presidency, said Saturday’s meeting saw little discussion of Mexico but instead was devoted to hammering out a joint stance to key monetary and development issues before next month’s World Bank and International Monetary Fund conferences in Seoul.
