In the wake of last week’s devastating earthquakes in Mexico, the Red Cross will present earthquake and disaster preparedness demonstrations this week at the Anaheim Convention Center.
The Red Cross program will explain what to do and what items should be available in the event of such a disaster, spokesman Harry Huggins said.
Demonstrations at 12:30 and 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday will be part of “Self 85,” a trade show dealing with self-improvement, stress management, positive thinking and physical fitness, said Janet Donovan, the convention center’s marketing manager.
Organizers of the “Self 85” show will donate $1 from each $5 ticket to the Red Cross relief fund for Red Cross victims, Donovan said. They will join other county residents and agencies that have donated $111,544 as of Monday, Huggins said.
In addition to the contributions, the Red Cross is looking for volunteers to aid not only the earthquake victims but anxious relatives in Orange County awaiting news from home, Huggins said. Especially on demand are bilingual volunteers who can “help take the phone calls about what’s going on in Mexico,” Huggins said.
