A reputed Mexican Mafia member was sentenced to 41-years-to-life in state prison for a contract slaying and the attempted murder of an off-duty sheriff’s deputy. David Delgadillo, 28, of East Los Angeles, convicted of first-degree murder and attempted murder, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Richard Hubbell. Deputy Dist. Atty. Fred Horn said Delgadillo shot David Valdez in the chest at an East Los Angeles gas station in August, 1983. Valdez had allegedly raped Delgadillo’s wife. Deputy Steve Archibald gave chase in his car as Delgadillo and another man fled after the killing. The driver, Richard Holguin, slowed his car down, then got behind Archibald’s car and Delgadillo shot the deputy in the back. Archibald was forced to retire because of his injury, Horn said. Holguin previously pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was sentenced to nine years in prison.
