Few California teachers have applied for $5,000 grants being offered by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for teachers, administrators or school districts who provide exemplary health education programs, said Ric Loya, a Huntington Park teacher and member of the Metropolitan Life committee that issues the grants.
The 20 grants, each totaling $5,000, have been established to promote school health education programs and may be used for any purpose the teacher or district chooses, he said.
Applicants may contact Loya at Huntington Park High School, 6020 Miles Ave., Huntington Park. Entries must be postmarked before Tuesday.
