Boats Impounded on Mission Bay Beach

The Mission Bay Harbor Patrol cracked down Friday on violators of a new city ordinance that bars overnight boat parking on the beach near Santa Clara Point during the week. Officers impounded about 20 boats whose owners had ignored warnings and tickets.
The ordinance, born of beachfront residents’ objections to crowding along the bay, permits beach parking only on Friday and Saturday nights.
Officer Michael Shutters said the harbor patrol had been unable to locate some of the boats’ owners by mid-evening Friday. Most of the seized boats were catamarans, he said.
Owners must pay $41 plus a $12-per-day storage charge to retrieve their boats from the patrol’s impound yard at Hospitality Point, 2581 Quivira Court.
