Faldo Eagles the Final Hole to Tie Pavin for Kapalua Lead

KAPALUA, Hawaii — Nick Faldo of England capped a wind-blown 67 with a last-hole eagle and tied Corey Pavin for the third-round lead Friday in the $500,000 Isuzu Kapalua International.

They shared a one-shot lead over Masters champion Bernhard Langer of West Germany and Mark O’Meara, tied at 207, going into today’s final round.

O’Meara had a 70 and Langer matched par-72 in 35 m.p.h. winds that gusted to 50.

Australian veteran Graham Marsh and Hawaiian club pro David Ishii were tied at 209. Marsh had a 68 and Ishii shot 75.

The group at 210 included Andy Bean, Canadian Dan Halldorson and Howard Clark of England. Halldorson and Clark each had a round of par 72 and Bean struggled to a 75.

Sandy Lyle, the British Open champion from Scotland who had dominated this course in his last two tournaments, shot a 78 Friday--his worst score here by eight strokes--and was eight strokes off the pace at 214.
