Two games this evening will close out the regular-season portion of the county prep football schedule.
In the Orange League, Magnolia High School will celebrate its 25th anniversary by retiring the jerseys of three former players--Hank Bauer (33), Jim Bratten (13) and Bob Jensen (61)--during halftime of tonight’s game against Savanna.
Bratten, who is a high school football coach in Colorado, and Jensen, a dentist who lives in Big Bear, will attend the ceremony. Bauer, an assistant with the San Diego Chargers, will not be able to attend but will be represented by his brother, Jim.
Bauer, a fullback and nose guard at Magnolia, graduated in 1972 and went on to play at Cal Lutheran, where he graduated in 1976. Bauer played six seasons with the Chargers before becoming special teams coach in 1983.
Bratten, a quarterback who led the Sentinels to a 10-1 record in 1966, graduated from the University of Colorado and later became the Estancia coach. He now coaches at Arvada High School in Colorado.
Jensen, a linebacker who graduated from Magnolia in 1966, helped USC to four Rose Bowls.
In the Garden Grove League, La Quinta is at Garden Grove.
