San Diego Section Volleyball : Poway, La Jolla Advance

SAN DIEGO — Top-seeded Poway and La Jolla high schools had little trouble winning their first-round matches in the San Diego Section volleyball playoffs, which began Tuesday night.
Poway (28-3), the 3-A defending champion, beat visiting Serra, 15-4, 15-9, 15-12. Cheri Boyer led the Titans with 14 kills, whereas Deanne Anastas added 7. Serra finished the year with a record of 13-14.
La Jolla (25-2), the three-time defending 2-A champions, beat Our Lady of Peace 15-1, 15-4, 15-9 win. Lady of Peace finished the year with a record of 8-3.
In other 3-A action:
Granite Hills 3, Sweetwater 1--The Eagles (21-6), the No. 2 team from the Grossmont League, upset the Red Devils (19-7), the champions of the Metro-Mesa League, 15-8, 15-6, 9-15, 15-6, at Sweetwater.
Mt. Carmel 3, Grossmont 1--The Sundevils (27-6) lost the first game, but then swept the next three against the third-seeded Foothillers (17-5) to win, 9-15, 15-5, 15-11, 15-6.
In other 2-A action:
University 3, Marian 2--University (19-8) rallied from a two-game deficit to beat third-seeded Marian (18-10) for the first time, 12-15, 10-15, 15-6, 15-7, 15-7, at Marian. Sophomore Eva Araujo led Marian with 14 kills.
Escondido 3, Christian 0--Escondido (13-11) and beat fourth-seeded Christian (12-9), 15-11, 15-11, 15-11 at Christian. Tawni Jeffries’ 9 kills paced Christian.
San Pasqual 3, Mar Vista 2--The second-seeded Golden Eagles (18-6) held on to beat Mar Vista (16-9), 15-10, 15-9, 8-15, 13-15, 15-2, at San Pasqual. Middle blocker Carrie Luttio had 16 kills for San Pasqual and Ann Master added 8.
