BUFFALO, N.Y. — Third-period goals by Brian Lawton and Keith Acton gave the Minnesota North Stars a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Monday in the only National Hockey League scheduled.
Brian Bellows and Neal Broten were the other goal scorers for the North Stars, who snapped a five-game winless streak on the road with a victory that was only their second away from Minnesota this year.
Lindy Ruff, Gil Perreault and Phil Housley scored for Buffalo, which could have moved into first place in the Adams Division with a win.
Perreault tied the score at 2-2 with his 10th goal of the season, his fourth in the last two games and the 492nd in his career, moving him into 11th place in the NHL’s all-time goal scoring list ahead of Jean Ratelle, who played 21 years with the New York Rangers and the Boston Bruins.
The North Stars pressed early in the third period and got the go-ahead goal when Lawton scored his fifth at the 2:46 mark. He tipped in a shot by Bob Rouse from just inside the point.
