TWA said its pact with Carl Icahn may be amended.

The airline’s announcement intensified concern that the New York financier has encountered problems raising enough cash to complete his purchase of the carrier. Industry analysts, speaking only on the condition that they not be identified, said Icahn wants to decrease the cash portion of the purchase price for the 16.9 million shares that he must buy to make Trans World Airlines a private company. TWA General Counsel Ulrich Hoffmann released a statement saying that the airline is “engaged in discussions” with Icahn “regarding a possible amendment to the terms of their merger agreement.”
