The latest Gallup Poll indicated that many Americans favor restricting the equal-employment rights of homosexuals in certain fields, such as the clergy and teaching in elementary schools. In the mid-November survey, a majority of those polled said gays should be hired as sales clerks or admitted to the armed forces, but only 36% favored allowing them to be teachers of young children. The poll found no evidence of increased hiring discrimination since the emergence of the AIDS epidemic.
