Sidney L. Spiegel; Wyle Lab’s Group Chief, Sales Leader

Sidney L. Spiegel, who came out of retirement in 1982 to reassume the presidency of Wyle Laboratories electronics distribution group, is dead of cancer at 58.
Spiegel, who died Saturday, was credited with leading Wyle’s growth in electronic components and systems from $3 million to $165 million in annual sales.
He had retired in 1981 as president of Wyle’s electronics marketing group but emerged the following year after the firm lost three major accounts. He stayed on in an interim role until October, 1982, but continued to serve as a consultant until his death.
Spiegel began his career in 1952 at Hughes Aircraft, spent seven years at Pacific Semiconductor and in 1961 joined TRW Electronics as vice president for marketing and sales. He came to Wyle in 1963.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia, five children and two grandchildren.
