Yezback Leads USIU Over Morgan State

SAN DIEGO — Joe Yezbak, the third-leading scorer in the nation, scored 24 points to lead the United States International University basketball team to a 82-78 win Thursday in a nonconference game against Morgan State University at UC San Diego. Yezbak entered the game averaging 26.7 points per game.
Morgan State led, 52-46, at halftime, but held Morgan State scoreless for the first 7:25 of the second half. Meanwhile, USIU scored 14 points during that span--six by Carl Chenault--to take a 60-52 lead. Chenault finished the game with 20 points.
Despite a strong effort by Troy Brown, who had 23 points, Morgan State dropped to 0-9. Turnovers were the key. Morgan State had 30 turnovers Thursday, 17 in the second half.
The win improved USIU to 3-5. The Gulls’ play Morgan State again Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Southwestern College.
