A man who told friends he was too drunk to drive and would walk home Christmas Eve was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. Manuel S. Juares, 43, was walking across Avenue 50 near Granada Street in the Mount Washington area shortly after 6 p.m. when he was run down, police said. Juares was taken to County-USC Medical Center with massive head injuries and died a short time later. Juares had parked his car on Avenue 50 and stopped in at a friend’s home to say he was too drunk to drive and that he was leaving his car nearby. He lived about three blocks from where he was run down. No arrests have been made.
