A record blast of frigid air in the Southeast made it colder in central Florida than in Alaska and threatened citrus crops for a second day.
The temperature was a chilling 32 early today in Orlando, compared with 33 in Anchorage, Alaska. It was only 38 degrees in West Palm Beach, and at the southern tip of Florida, the temperature in Key West dropped to a record 46 degrees. Today’s temperatures were up from Thursday’s, when sub-freezing readings were common throughout the state. Citrus growers have reported no widespread damage so far.
