Moderate Quake Rocks Alaska

PALMER, Alaska — A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale rumbled through south-central Alaska early today, awakening many Anchorage residents as it struck at 3:41 a.m.

The tremor was followed by six small aftershocks. The two largest ones measured 3.7 and were big enough to be felt, said Tom Sokolowski, director of the Tsunami Warning Center. He said houses “rattled around” but there was only one unconfirmed report of damage, a cracked wall.
