Bowl Notes : COTTON
This Cotton Bowl may be remembered for Bo Jackson’s inability to crack the end zone in three tries, and also perhaps for Kevin Murray’s passing record being overlooked. Murray, Texas A&M;’s sophomore quarterback, threw for 292 yards, breaking a record of 231 set in 1970 by Notre Dame’s Joe Theismann.
Jackson, Auburn’s Heisman Trophy winner, did earn a record of his own. He rushed for 31 times, two more than the mark set by Earl Campbell in 1978.
