Overturned Propane Truck Closes Freeway

A tanker truck filled with propane overturned on the Hollywood Freeway in Studio City Friday night, causing the California Highway Patrol to close the freeway while fire fighters determined that there was no gas leak, CHP Officer Richard Perez said.
The truck’s driver suffered minor injuries in the 8:30 p.m. accident on the freeway’s southbound lanes, north of Vineland Avenue, but was not hospitalized, Los Angeles city Fire Department spokesman Larry Ford said.
No other vehicles were involved. Officials were investigating the cause, Ford said.
Twenty fire fighters, including a hazardous materials unit, were sent to investigate reports that the propane, a flammable gas, was leaking from the truck, Ford said. But by 9:45 p.m. fire officials determined that was not the case, he said.
Ford said the freeway would remain closed until the propane was transferred to another tanker and the disabled truck was taken off the road.
