Ireland’s Eamonn Coghlan, holder of the world indoor record, won the mile run in 4:04.44 in the Manufacturer’s Hanover-Metropolitan Athletic Conference New Year’s Festival at West Point, N.Y.
Pat Petersen, third in last year’s New York Marathon, was a distant runner-up in 4:08.
William Reed, a 15-year-old sophomore from Central High School in Philadelphia, was a double winner. He took the 300-meter run in 33.69 and the 500 meters in 1:03.03.
