PREP BASKETBALL : Nonleague Roundup : Long Beach Poly Defeats Ocean View on Late Free Throws by Herring

Long Beach Poly guard Michael Herring made two free throws with 22 seconds left to give the Jackrabbits a 51-49 nonleague victory over Ocean View Wednesday night at Cal State Long Beach.
Herring, the quarterback who led Poly to the CIF Southern Section Big 5 football co-championship last fall, paced the Jackrabbits (8-5) with 13 points. Ricky Butler of Ocean View led all scorers with 19 points. Ocean View (10-4) trailed by as many as 10 points in the third quarter before closing the gap. It was Ocean View’s third loss in its last four games.
