PREP BASKETBALL : South Coast League : Mission Viejo Stops Wade to Beat San Clemente

Mission Viejo High School held San Clemente’s high-scoring Gary Wade to eight points Wednesday night and won its South Coast League opener, 49-34, at San Clemente.
Wade was averaging 22.4 points a game, but the Diablos put the clamps on the 6-foot 6-inch senior. San Clemente countered with a slowdown game plan, but fell behind, 22-10, at halftime and never recovered.
Mission Viejo (11-4) was paced by Jeff Herdman with 13 points and Todd Mathews with 12. San Clemente (7-7) was led by Mike Steadman with 8 points and 15 rebounds.
