A bomb threat forced the temporary closing of a bridge in the strikebound port of New Bedford, Mass., as five fishing boats with non-union crews put to sea and the Coast Guard dispatched a cutter to protect boats seeking to leave. The five boats and three vessels with non-union crews, which left a day earlier under the watch of state and local police, were the first to leave the harbor since the 800-member fishermen’s union began its strike on Dec. 27.
