Lowell Tops USIU in Hockey, 5-2

SAN DIEGO — United States International University scored the first two goals, but couldn’t make the lead stand up Tuesday night as it lost, 5-2, to Lowell, Mass. in a nonconference ice hockey match at Mira Mesa House of Ice.
The Gulls (12-11) went ahead on two shorthanded goals scored during the same penalty late in the first period. Doug Hanneson scored at 15:25, and Craig Shepard followed with a goal 1:01 later.
Lowell (6-18-1) answered with four goals in the second period. Joe Morris and Rod Badger each had a goal and two assists for the Chiefs in the period.
