Acting on an informant’s tip, San Diego police Thursday arrested a 21-year-old sailor in connection with the stabbing deaths of two Linda Vista sisters and the attempted slaying of their 13-year-old brother.
Ralph Joseph Johns, a sailor assigned to the Miramar Naval Air Station, was being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder Thursday night, police said.
The sisters, Tina Marie Cvengros, 18, and Lori Ann Cvengros, 15, were stabbed numerous times in their home Nov. 8. David Cvengros was also attacked and stabbed, but survived by playing dead.
Police received a telephone tip Thursday evening that Johns was staying at a home on 42nd Street in Southeast San Diego, a police spokesman said. After spotting a stolen motorcycle that Johns was said to be riding, seven police officers surrounded the home. Johns was arrested without incident about 6 p.m., police said.
