Who’ll Watch Watchdog?
“Watchdog for Quality and Costs” (Dec. 29), coincided with a three-hour documentary the night before on ABC-TV called “Growing Old in America.”
One has to ask, will California Medical Review Inc., to justify its becoming the “new power rising over (the) health field,” be so concerned with costs that the elderly will suffer even more than demonstrated in the documentary?
Nowhere in the article is there any reference to who is going to be the “watchdog” for elderly interests.
Maybe the federal government ought to fund a watchdog organization for care of the elderly to the same degree as the reported “$27-million federal contract (to CMRI) to become California’s ‘peer review organization’ for Medicare.”
