The new United Artists Corp. has named Andrew Fogelson, an independent movie producer, to be its president of worldwide marketing. Fogelson has held executive posts in marketing at Warner Bros. and Columbia Pictures and was president of Rastar Films from 1979 to 1981, when he became an independent producer.
New UA, headed by Jerry Weintraub, is being purchased by financier Kirk Kerkorian, majority shareholder of MGM/UA Entertainment, simultaneously with the sale of MGM/UA to Turner Broadcasting.
Separately, MGM/UA Chairman and Chief Executive Frank Rothman has formally announced that he will resign those posts when the Turner transaction is closed, as he previously has said.
Rothman will join the Los Angeles office of the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.
Before becoming MGM/UA head in 1982, Rothman was a senior partner in the Los Angeles law firm of Wyman, Bautzer, Rothman, Kuchel & Silbert.
