The FBI endorsed a bill that would give police departments for railroads and private colleges access to all criminal records in the federal government’s crime information computer. Lawrence K. York, assistant director of the FBI identification division, said the “criminal justice and law enforcement needs of the railroad police and campus police are best served by access to these records.” York and representatives of the police agencies testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in favor of legislation introduced by Chairman Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) to permit the access.
