Ugandan rebel commander Yoweri Museveni was sworn in as the nation’s president, four days after his National Resistance Army stormed Kampala and brought down the six-month-old military government. Museveni, a former defense minister, is Uganda’s seventh head of state since the country of 14 million gained independence from Britain in 1962. In a nearly hourlong inaugural speech, Museveni said his government will be an interim one, but did not give a date for elections.
