Sergei Bubka, world record-holder in the pole vault, has withdrawn from four indoor track and field meets in the United States, including the GTE-Los Angeles Times Indoor Games Feb. 21 at the Forum, because of a commitment in the Soviet Union.
The Athletics Congress received a Telex from the Light Athletic Federation of the Soviet Union saying that Bubka has to compete in the Sport Festival. He will attend only the USA-Mobil Indoor Championships Feb. 28 in New York.
Both of the world’s best vaults--19 feet 8 inches and 19-6--were made by Bubka, both outdoors last summer. His best indoor vault was 19-3 in Japan Jan. 15
