TCHAIKOVSKY: PIANO CONCERTO NO. 1. LISZT: PIANO CONCERTO NO. 1. Horacio Guitierrez, piano; London Symphony Orchestra, Andre Previn, conductor. Angel Eminence AE-34421. This is a gripping performing of Tchaikovsky’s Concerto, beside which even Artur Rubinstein’s recording with Erich Leinsdorf and the Boston Symphony seems pale. The orchestra resounds with force, the flute solos are played with bewitching intensity and the pianist has grace, tenderness and lighting bolts of power which he hurls forth in strong passages and especially at the end.
